AOS at Farnborough 2012

Icing on wing

AOS will be at this year’s Farnborough Airshow (9-15 July) – look for us at the Technology Strategy Board (TSB) stand inside the new Innovation Zone, located near the taxiways in front of the EADS pavilion (note group of hexagonal shapes on show site map). We’ll be featuring our involvement in the ASTRAEA national UAS programme and current work on autonomous flight in adverse weather and icing conditions.

AOS will also be on Team Australia Stand D2 in Hall 1. We’ll be featuring our recent contract win from Lockheed Martin Aeronautics to develop a Rational Information Broker (or RIB) for future upgrades of the F-35 Lightning 2. (photo of F-35 from the handout)

The RIB will enhance interoperability between the F-35 platform and network centric infrastructure such as the Global Information Grid. In particular, for an Intelligence Surveillance Reconnaissance role, the RIB will discover, access and utilize off-board sensor and ISR information. It also enables the F-35 to act as an information server and ‘publish’ its onboard data, thus becoming both a high-value, non-traditional ISR platform and repository for other time-critical operational information, e.g. local EW environment or local weather.

This RIB contribution will facilitate LM Aero in efficiently and effectively resolving future interoperability challenges based on AOS’s experience and expertise. This has been derived from fifteen years of defence and aero/UAS work with US, UK, Canadian and Australian defence forces, as well as aerospace primes including Lockheed Martin, NGC, Boeing, BAE Systems, Rolls-Royce and EADS.
